It creates depth that too many producers and creative directors just don't take the time to develop anymore.

JILL SCOTT FEATURE
Given more liberty with the shoot that usual, here is where it landed along with a playful typographic headline. Deciding to change it up and be seen with her short natural hair was the key in this shoot.
TYLER PERRY FEATURE
The photo shoot with this one and all that linear glass really did dictate the way the headline had to be. Setting the shoot at a really contemporary office space and keeping typography thin and contemporary too lead to a merit award.
BEYONCE FEATURE
With a woman who is so photographed and well, it was a challenge to assemble the way she could be depicted in a new way. Bringing in photographer Ruven Afanador helped to ease her and create a magical space on a small ranch. Close to home and fantasy both come together here.
ALICIA KEYS FEATURE
A clean, really clean simplicity is what we were after here. Alicia wanted to go extremely gentle and was sensitive to her ethnic background and not representing it wrong. The clean simple approach was how we handled it at the shoot and in layout.
SEXY CELEB FEATURE
In a story like this, one can slide into "full-cheese" easily. Slick and simple graphics, connected to images that are what the audience wants with a sophisticated lighting or color or even b&w made this sophisticated while nailing "stud-story".

This story was the first to promote her first new album that was pulling out of the pain and moving forward into a happier place for her. B7w shoot to give it more of a journalistic approach and in payout use hand sketching to create the feeling of her coming out of the noise and chaos that she had been known to sing about was everything here.

VIBE MAGAZINE DEVELOPMENT
I was called in to help develop a rich feature well for Vibe magazine. We were experimenting with hand skills and tools mixed with digital processes and everything scanned in together then. It was a terrific experiment with a lot of good results.
SEVENTEEN PROM COVERS
When shooting a cover, one must always consider the brand, audience and how to beat all the competition to sell yours her theirs. After reviewing how seriously young girls take the prom, I decided to move the cover shoot more into the realm of "bridal" while keeping the color and playfulness of prom.

The cover story for the prom issue was a challenge. To capture dresses that were relatively cheep for formal wear in an image that made them look like expensive bridal wear was not the only challenge. making people want to be her and there was the other.

This was a simple matter of the best photo research we could do, nailing the most desired images of a cast that drove the audience wild. We successfully made those selects and delivered a couple issues that had to go into reprint due to their success.
