A good fashion or beauty shoot begins with a incredible idea and a great team! I always develop a solid concept and then assemble the team around it that can grow it bigger than I would myself. Fashion and beauty shoots are a wonderful opportunity for each member of the right team to bring their best and marry it into one special story.

Shot in Key Largo, we stepped up to allow a lot more artistic liberty with color and overall image. We also stepped up to a much more lavish location being at a private home on the shore. All elements came together to create one of their more successful fashion shoots.

After pressing the idea over and over to Essence editors, finally there was the beginning of a "skin and feature" based story. This was both a contest and a celebration of the real black women who range in skin tones and features so widely. Finally a story to celebrate that.

What a fun way to highlight the colors we paint on our faces with makeup than to strip all the color out of everything that wasn't colored by makeup. We added the touch of color for the jewelry to increase the color play as well.

Finding that magical location that all young girls believe is possible for their wedding and then taking them there and dressing them in prom gowns worked like magic. When separating each style group, we found the perfect locations for each of them.
